Tim Draper and Innovate Your State will use a $500,000 grant to reimburse California counties a yearlong subscription to OpenGov.

OpenGov specializes in making government financial data both public AND easy to visualize and process.

More than 300 local and state governments have used OpenGov’s platform since the startup’s 2012 founding.

OpenGov is the first award winner for Innovate Your State’s “Fix California Challenge.”

Draper, the man behind Six Californias, lauded OpenGov for its ability to create “complete transparency” as it can drill deep into data, so you can see “not just how much has been spent on police but dogs and jackets."

The California State Association of Counties has yet to reply to the offer, as spokesman Gregg Fishman highlighted the diverse needs of California’s various counties.  For example, the sheer population difference between LA County and Alpine County means they have entirely different needs.

Innovate Your State will announce the other winners of the first Fix California Challenge within the next two weeks.
