Gov Transparency 2.0: Innovative Solutions to California’s Trust Problem

Californians are thinking about ways to combat distrust in government as they submit ideas to Innovate Your State’s Fix California Challenge. We heard from the public (in response to our State of Government Innovation Survey) that trust in government has room to improve.

Last year’s Fix California Challenge winning submission The California Legislature Transparency Act would help hold politicians accountable. The Act improves transparency both at the end of session (prohibiting “gut and amend” by requiring 24 hours in print) and throughout by requiring ALL legislative hearings be videotaped and made available online (currently only some are made available).

All are innovative approaches to looking at our state structure in order to bring new voices and more people into the process.
